Hi, guys! I thought I'd pass along a nice email from one of our class' hardest workers on our 40TH (wow!) reunion. It was great as was our class (64) in the "old" high school...the one w/o air conditioning or central heat.
This email from our friend Kay Hollenbeck...07/21/04:
Well, I do believe we all had a wonderful time.
Thanks for all the kind words and compliments from
everyone. I know that every person who worked hard to
put the whole weekend together really appreciated the
We had approximately 150-170 people show up on Friday
nite at Scholtz's. The room was too noisy but a good time was had
Saturday morning about 20 of us came to the Memorial
Service at "New" Austin High where we "planted" a
river rock with the words "In Memory AHS Class of '64"
on it. Thanks especially to Mike Harper for digging
the hole and providing the cement and the sweat!
Also to Suzanne (Julian) Free's son Jason for bringing
the trimmer to cut the grass for us so we could have a
nice view of our tree.
We probably had 160 attendees on Saturday nite at the
Hyatt. Except for the downpour on arrival, the evening
was a huge success. The band was great and Kenny
Bartosh got to do a set with them. The food was
delicious and the view was great. Special thanks to
Rusty Turley for endless hours of work to provide us
with name tags with our senior pictures on them and
the wonderful slide show of ole pics from the yearbook
and even included photos from Friday's Golf Tournament
at Avery Ranch.
Overall we made enough to keep $2000 in our savings
account for seed money for next time and we still made
enough to contribute $1,000 to the AHS Scholarship
fund. We will be submitting that to the school as
soon as they return from Summer vacation.
I do think that everything went really well and I hope
that all of you enjoyed yourselves as much as I did.
Many thanks to all the people who worked tirelessly
over the last few years to make it all come together.
Kaye LaGrone who keeps us all on our toes with email
addresses, regular addresses, keeping tabs on the bank
acccount, keeping lists of attendance and many other
duties too numerous to mention.
Jackie Seiders for the address list, directories, logo
for the t-shirt logo and many hours spent entering all
the information for the directory and mailing list.
Susan Von Rosenberg for helping with the leg work on
finding a venue and finding a venue and then working
on the contract.
Pat and Roger Seiders for providing the t-shirts every
time. And also this year for many of the door prize
Dan Lundquist for planning and running the golf
tournament on Friday.
Phyllis Lanning for starting the Sponsorship Program
which enabled us to give money to the scholarship fund
at Austin High and for working so hard on the door
prizes and also with setting up the contract with the
Ken Bartosh for finding us a band.
Many thanks to all who came to meetings, helped send
out invitations, spearheaded committees, or did any
work at all to make the weekend a success.
And my special thanks to Diana McKinney Knox who was
my right-hand woman the weekend of the reunion. I
couldn't have gotten through it without her help.
Thanks again to anyone who helped and to all who
attended and made it a success!!
